A Taste of Marketplace Gungahlin: Part One

on 20 May 2021 in Dining & Entertainment

With a tram that goes straight to the centre of Gungahlin, plenty of parking spaces, shops for your dose of retail therapy, salons to pamper yourself and a great selection of dining options, Marketplace Gungahlin is a great spot to spend a few hours, or even the day.

Marketplace has teamed up with some of their fabulous retailers to offer you a stack of exclusive dining offers, so you can make the most out of your next visit. With free coffee, free sushi and 20% off Grease Monkey up for grabs, you would be mad to miss out!

Just visit the Centre from Monday 24th May and pick up one of their Let’s Dine passes from participating retailers or outside Woolworths so you can start visiting the participating retailers and claim the offers ASAP.

So, where should you start? Don’t worry, we recently visited just for you and we’ve put together a little dining guide to help you discover what's available when you're feeling a little peckish.

Lagom

Untitled-design-11.png

Lagom is the newest café in Gungahlin and its all-day menu, perfectly brewed coffee, friendly staff and gorgeous interior has already made it a popular spot for locals. They also have a dog-friendly outdoor area where you can treat your fur baby to a puppuchino complete with whipping cream and doggy treats, plant-based of course.

Some of their delicious breakfast, brunch and lunch options feature Taiwanese, Korean and Japanese flavours. With a chef who has hailed from the kitchens of popular Lazy Su and Raku, you know your tastebuds will be tantalised. Jason is the friendly face behind the coffee machine and the co-owner who will keep you caffeinated.

We recommend the char siu tacos, the loaded croissant and the salmon poke bowl. We’ll be returning to try the fried chicken burger and the pancakes soon so we might see you there!

Oh and did we mention FREE coffee? That’s right, Lagom will give you one complimentary hot beverage with every meal over $15 purchased. But don’t stress if you’re not a coffee drinker because you can have a tea, hot choccie or another hot beverage of your choice.

Lagom is open from 7:30am until 5pm every day.

Jade Dumpling House

Come on, admit it, honey chicken is your guilty pleasure and if it’s not, you can’t sit here – joking! But if you enjoy the occasional sweet and savoury satisfaction of a indulging in big bowl of crispy, sticky honey chicken you need to put in a takeaway order of $50 or more at Jade Dumpling House and you’ll receive a FREE honey chicken.

You might want to add the soup dumplings, barbecue pork puffs, crispy duck, special szechuan chilli beef or chilli chicken to your order because they’re some of their most popular dishes. Their dumplings are all handmade in the restaurant and they’re so good that you’ll leave won ton more. They also have succulent BBQ meats that you’ll see in the window as you walk by.

Jade Dumpling House is open from 11:30am until 2:30pm and for dinner from 5pm until late. They’re open every day except for Tuesday and you can check out their website to see the menu, order online and get their food delivered straight to your door if you live in the delivery area.

Mr Sushi

Take a little trip to Japan (AKA Mr Sushi) for some fresh sushi on the go. Choose from freshly made futomaki rolls, nigiri and sushi packs featuring seafood, chicken and vegetarian options. Their sushi packs are great value, starting at $8 for a mixed maki pack.

If you want something a little fancier go with the sashimi deluxe, the bento box or the sushi deluxe. Each pack features a variety of Japanese delights bursting with flavour and freshness.

The Salmon Tuna Sushi pack is filled with a selection of fresh salmon, tuna and prawn nigiri with pickled ginger, soy sauce and wasabi. If you purchase one Salmon Tuna Sushi pack, you’ll get one free.

With dairy free, gluten free, low calorie, high fibre and low fat options available, you’ll find a liquid meal for everyone. Heck, they even have drinks like the Gym Junkie, with extra protein for those of us wanting to bulk up and build muscles. There’s no better time than winter to keep fit and avoid that cosy winter blanket that many of us accumulate. Summer bods and made in winter, right? You can even grab one of their tasty protein balls to enjoy with your drink!

Grab your bestie or your family and pick up two original Boost for $12 to make the most of the offer.

Hot Wok

bencalvert-marketplace-67.jpg

With Malaysian, Chinese and Thai dishes on the menu at Hot Wok, their laksa was a standout for us. Perfectly spiced and packed with flavour, this delicious bowl of soupy goodness will warm your soul. If laska isn’t your thing, you might want to try the chicken pad thai or the teriyaki chicken noodles from their wok tossed noodle menu. We’re told these are two of their most popular dishes.

You can choose from a range of dishes and customise your order with your choice of udon noodles, egg noodles or rice noodles. They also have some vegan dishes like the Szechuan eggplant and almond or the black bean with veggies and tofu.

Hot Wok is available for delivery but if you visit the restaurant try and score the little table by the window, in the corner at the front. With a little imagination, it might transport you to somewhere far, far away in Asia.

If you’re hungry, we’re told the combo noodle dish is the one to curb your hunger. If you’re a laksa lover like us, you can pick up a $15 laksa and a bottle of water using the offer from the Let’s Dine pass.

Grease Monkey

A trip to Marketplace wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Grease Monkey. This popular burger joint has been flipping burgers pouring beers, frying chicken and serving a range of tasty snacks at their Braddon location since 2015. Their Gungahlin location opened in 2020 and it’s something else. Located down a little alley that was once a loading dock, it has a really cool vibe with bright graffiti on the walls and festoon lights hanging between the walkway. If you love Grease Monkey you need to check out their Gungahlin venue.

We’re huge fans of Grease Monkey and we recommend everything from their menu but some of our favourites are the Greasy burger, the truffle mac and cheese bites and the fried chicken. If you like seasoned chips, ask for extra seasoning.

If you spend $50 at Grease Monkey you’ll get 20% off your order with the Let’s Dine exclusive offer. Take our money!

Grease Monkey is open from 11am until 8:30pm every day in Gungahlin.
