Easter Food Shopping List: A Complete Guide to the Perfect Meal

on 20 March 2023 in General News

Easter is almost here and we cannot wait! Not only is it the perfect excuse to gather with friends and family and partake in fun activities like Easter egg hunts, but it’s also one of the best ‘foodie’ holidays! From hot cross bun brunches to baked ham lunches and all the chocolate in between, Easter is a great time to put on a spread and enjoy these seasonal delicacies with those you love.

No matter how you celebrate Easter, food is always an integral part. If you’re putting on an Easter lunch this year or simply looking for Easter meal ideas, this Easter shopping list will help!

We’ve put together a list of Easter meal ideas including appetisers, mains, sides and desserts, and a grocery list to make your Easter 2023 shopping and meal prepping stress-free. Let’s hop right into it!

Appetisers

  • Classic deviled eggs
  • Pigs in a blanket
  • Pinwheels
  • Fruit salad with a sweet Easter dip

Like most holidays, it’s best to start off with a delicious appetisers to snack on before the main Easter meal. These four Easter appetiser ideas are simple to make, only require few ingredients and – most importantly – are egg-stra tasty!

From your classic deviled eggs and a kid favourite – pig in a blanket, to pinwheels that can be made with your choice of filling including vegemite, pizza or ham & cheese. We’ve also thrown in a healthy snack choice of fruit salad (think grapes, strawberries, pineapple and melon) with a yummy sweet easter dip (it is Easter, after all!).

These appetisers also work for an afternoon tea or if you’re not looking to make a big meal during Easter but still want to entertain guests.

Main course

  • Smoked ham
  • Whole baked fish
  • Lamb leg
  • Classic Aussie BBQ

Traditional Easter dinners/lunches usually consist of a cooked meat such as a glazed leg ham or the Aussie favourite – a BBQ of sausages, hamburgers and chops! Other crowd-pleasing mains include roast lamb and fish. If you’re entertaining a lot of guests, you can try a whole baked fish as seen in this Barbecued whole snapper with lime and chilli. Place in the centre of the table on a stylish serving platter (you can pick one up from Homebase) and let everyone dig in!

Sides

  • Scalloped potatoes
  • Mac & cheese
  • Roast vegetables
  • Garden salad

Of course, no Easter main can go ahead without a side dish. Sure, the glazed hams and succulent roasts are hot contenders, but the real stars of the show in Easter lunches are the sides! Roasted root vegetables, creamy pasta salads and potatoes au gratin are just some of our favourites. Serve them up at your Easter gettogether and the crowd are sure to go hopping mad!

Dessert

  • Hot cross bun pudding
  • Carrot cake
  • Sweet platter
  • Easter egg brownies

For most of us, chocolate and Easter go hand in hand. Which is why we have selected a decadent Easter egg brownie as an Easter dessert choice. But you cannot have too much of a good thing! Which is why we have also added some other sweet treats that are easy to whip up on Easter Sunday including a warm hot cross bun pudding that can be served with cream or custard, a cream cheese frosted carrot cake and, for the very time poor, a sweet platter (think those svaoury platters but instead filled with sweet treats including an indulgent mini dessert selection, mixed lollies, Ferrero Rochers and milk chocolate pretzels – all available at Woolworths).

Beverages

  • Mimosa
  • Cadbury Creme Egg Cocktail
  • Infused sparkling water
  • Iced tea

Easter calls for a celebratory drink to accompany those delicious meals. While it’s nice to have the usual selection of lemonades, beers and wines, why not include something a little bit more special? For the adults, a sparkling mimosa always goes well with Easter brunch. Simply add your favourite sparkling wine to fresh orange juice in a champagne flute. Or why not try this Cadbury Creme Egg cocktail to impress your guests? For kids and those who don’t drink alcohol, some fresh agua fresca (water infused with fruit) or a cold iced tea will go down a treat.
