EIGHT REASONS WE KICK ASS AT GUZMAN Y GOMEZ
At Guzman y Gomez, we wear our hearts on our sleeves and we’re proud of it. We want to be the best and that means not settling with ‘pretty good’ or ‘good enough’. If you think we have nice burritos, we’re upset. We want to have game-changing, brain-melting burritos. Australia deserves the best Mexican food, and here are eight reasons why we think we’ve got it (without bragging too much).
UNO: AUTHENTICITY MAKES OUR FOOD THE BEST
If you can’t be real to yourself, who can you be real to? We’re serious about staying true to the old-school Mexican recipes and cooking techniques. We get our tomatillos, for example, from Southern California and the majority of our chillies from Northern Mexico. We even use the ancient Aztec process of nixtamalization (where corn or grain is soaked and cooked in lime water) to make our soft shell taco tortillas.
DOS: OUR INGREDIENTS ARE TOO LEGIT TO QUIT
We’re giving fast food the rep it deserves. Not only do we get your order through quick-smart – we’re committed to sourcing only the freshest local Aussie produce, and we believe microwaves and freezers should be banned from the kitchen. Good food never cuts corners, just like our chicken, which is Australian Free Range chicken and marinated in authentic achiote paste, guajillo chilli, fresh garlic and a touch of vinegar.
We get our food from some of Australia’s finest suppliers. For example, our Guacamole ingredients come from the farm straight to our Taqueria’s every day, while La Tortilleria provides, time-honoured Mexican food experiences to life through award winning tortillas and totopos. Using the ancient Aztec craft of nixtamal, our uniquely flavoursome and nutritious products will take you on a journey through the colourful streets of Mexico and its tortillerias.
TRES: WE’RE OBSESSED WITH PERFECTION
Our hearts beat because we want to find better food. We don’t just relax and call it a day once we’ve made some ‘pretty good’ Mexican. Oh no – we’re relentless. Did you know that our chipotle and guerrero marinades went through 20 versions before we found one we were actually happy with? And our corn chips are now at version 18. You may be able to tell that constantly making our food better is a big deal to us.
CUATRO: OH, AND WE’RE ALSO CRAZY ABOUT AVOCADOS
We love guacamole. It’s the reason why every single one of our taquerias hand-smashes our freshly delivered avocados that arrive daily. We’re crazy about great guac, which means mixing Roma tomatoes, Spanish onions and coriander with those scrumptious avocados. Then we add in a pinch of pico, salt and a splash of lemon juice. Perfection.
CINCO: OUR PASSION FOR FOOD COMES FROM THE TOP
GYG is all about celebrating with good food and friends. In fact, our bosses Robert and Steven grew up together and have known each other since they were four years old. From an early age, they learnt their love for Latin culture and Mexican food. In 2006, they brought that love to Australia and Guzman y Gomez was born.
SEIS: WE SUPPORT MEXICAN STREET ARTISTS
We weren’t kidding when we said we’re authentic, and we put our money where our mouth is. This year, we got 12 artworks from rising Mexican street artists to showcase throughout our restaurants, website and social media channels. Why not take a look in-store or online?

What is food without people to eat it with? We want to make sure your experience at GYG is memorable, and we bring a contagious energy to your interactions with us. It’s all part of our family values: we’re all in this together – we can’t make our food and dining experience better without you. You’re the star. We made the GOMEX loyalty program to reward you with free food and get you involved with our taste testing and menu creation. In fact, 800 of you helped us create our sautéed vegetables, and more than 650 helped us in the design of our new Android app and iOS app. If you talk, we listen.
