Green Smoothie Recipes the Whole Family Will Love

on 27 August 2015 in General News

If your kids are fussy about vegetables, you just need to find ways to make them more appetising. Nothing beats a green smoothie for a quick and tasty vitamin fix to make sure their active bodies are getting everything they need.

Try these 3 green smoothie recipes for fresh and delicious drinks the whole family can enjoy together. With the right balance of sweet flavours, the little ones won't even suspect they're drinking something that's good for them!

1. Tropi-kale smoothie

If it's hard to imagine your child tucking into fresh kale, they won't even notice the blended leaves among the zesty banana and pineapple. Though the healthy green colour might give it away…

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup almond milk
  • 2 bananas, frozen and sliced
  • 2 cups pineapple chunks, fresh
  • 2 cups kale, fresh

Directions:

Blend at high speed in a powerful blender for 3 minutes or as long as it takes for the mixture to become completely smooth, adding extra milk or water if needed.

2. Ginger pear smoothie

For something a little more subdued that suits every season, ripe pears and a touch of ginger also make a winning combination with kale.

Ingredients:

  • 2 large pears, cored and quartered
  • 2 bananas, quartered
  • 2 cups kale
  • 1 small piece ginger

Directions:

Add the fruit to the blender followed by the other ingredients and blend for at least 1 minute. Add water if the mixture looks too thick and optional citrus flavouring for a fruitier finish.

3. Traffic light smoothie

If your kids mainly eat with their eyes and aren't impressed with your green creations, this tricolour smoothie is sure to win them over – as long as they don't discover that the green is really spinach.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cups mango chunks, frozen
  • 1 cup strawberries, frozen
  • 1 cup spinach, fresh
  • 1 cup water or almond milk

Directions:

Each layer needs to be blended separately to achieve the desired effect. First blend the mango and water, pouring half into the glass and keeping the remainder as the base. Next, blend and pour the strawberries followed by the spinach, adding honey or other sweeteners if preferred.
