Centrelink deliver a range of payments and services for people at times of major change. They are responsible for the development of service delivery policy and provide access to social, health and other payments and services. They offer a range of health, social and welfare payments and services through:

Looks after the health of Australians through programs such as the:

  • Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme
  • Australian Childhood Immunisation Register and
  • Australian Organ Donor Register

Delivers payments and services and provides services at times of major change for:

  • seniors
  • job seekers
  • students and trainees
  • families
  • carers
  • parents
  • people with disability
  • Indigenous Australians, and
  • people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds

Child Support
Gives separated parents the financial and emotional support needed for their children’s wellbeing.

Centrelink can assist and provide information for issues such as: 

  • Accommodation, renting and homelessness: if you are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless. Help is available for you to manage your rental payments if you receive a payment from Centrelink.
  • Australians overseas: if you are going to travel or live outside Australia, you need to check how this may affect your health care, child support arrangements and Centrelink payments.
  • Crisis and special help: there are payments and services available to you if you are experiencing severe financial hardship, recovering from a disaster, or in need of special assistance.
  • Managing your money: to help manage your money, information is available about budgeting, borrowing and credit, and managing debt.
  • Tax time: Learn about the things you need to do at the end of each financial year to prepare your tax return.
  • What to do following a death: Centrelink provide payments, counselling and financial services to help people adjust to life after someone close to them has died.
