Diamond buyers guide: the 4 C's
Cut: the cut of a diamond affects its sparkle. This is expressed in terms of brilliance, fire and scintillation of a diamond. A diamond must be cut to very specific parameters in order for an eye dazzling sparkle - it will then attract and concentrate light from many directions and radiate it outwards.
Clarity: measure's a diamond's purity. Most diamonds have clarity characteristics - the less of these there are, the higher the clarity grade.
Colour: diamonds are available in a wide variety of colours. Polished diamonds are graded from colourless to light yellow and light brown on a colour scale from D (exceptionally white) to Z (tinted colour).
Carat: a measure of weight. One carat equals 0.20 grams and is divided into 100 points.
Caring for your diamonds: diamonds are the most durable substance on earth and with the right care, can last forever. Simple maintenance will ensure your diamond remains looking brilliant. Try to remove rings when working with your hands, such as gardening or heavy housework. Carefully wipe your jewellery with a soft cloth after each wearing to remove oils and salts. Store each piece of jewellery separately to prevent scratching. Clean your diamonds on a regular basis.
